IBC 3006.2 Elevator Hoistway Door Protection: Elevator hoistway doors shall be protected in accordance with this section.

IBC 3006.2.1 Shaft Enclosure: Elevator hoistways shall be enclosed by shaft enclosures in accordance with Section 713.

IBC 3006.2.2 Trigger Conditions: Protection is required when the elevator serves as a means of egress, accessible means of egress, accessible route, or accessible means of transportation.

IBC 3006.2.3 Exceptions: Protection is not required when specific fire protection systems are in place.
